How to practice self love using the science of Alter Egos?

Updated: May 16

Our learnings have always come from nature and it teaches us that you can be the Dry Valleys of Antarctica or Mawsynram and exist and be a world-famous destination for travel enthusiasts. You do not also need to be the superlatives to exist. You may not rain like Mawsynram but Mumbai, and that's okay. You have beaches, Bollywood, and Vada pavs. The bottom line, we don't need to be the best of anything. We need to be free ourselves - know the good, overcome the bad, and improve the mediocre.

Let's get to the HOW.

Self-love is a practice not a one-time event; thus, takes a long holistic approach to do it sustainably and effortlessly. It needs intent to begin with and then some values clarification, a process of self-discovery and decision-making that involves identifying and prioritizing your core values. It aligns our thoughts, behaviours, and decision-making. This can lead to a greater sense of self-awareness and personal fulfilment, as now we can make decisions that align with our values and live a life that is authentic and meaningful to us.

Sounds like a plan, but still didn't get the HOW?

The following framework of 10 subgoals using alter egos may help you develop the practice of self love:

1. Developing the intent to search for a greater purpose and self-awareness

Admitting to ourselves that we are searching for greater purpose and self-awareness in life,

and are willing to explore new ideas and perspectives to achieve this.

2. Developing self-belief is needed for this journey of becoming

Believe that we are capable of discovering our purpose and achieving greater goals,

with the support of the community and our own inner resources.

3. Understanding our evolution and identifying the limiting beliefs.

Understanding present behavioural patterns, underlying structures, socio-economic evolution

and mental models to understand our current limiting beliefs.

4. Identifying priorities and scope for growth and improvement

Taking our current beliefs, values, and habits, and identifying areas for growth and

improvement; reflecting on the ways in which we have been holding ourselves back from achieving our

purpose and goals.

5. Practicing forgiveness and gratitude

Practicing forgiveness for events and circumstances of the past that

were beyond your control, and lastly, gratitude for all the positivity around us,

and inside us.

6. Creating an alter ego which is free from the limiting beliefs

Create an Alter Ego, an identity which is free from the beliefs identified in earlier steps,

an identity of who we want to be.

7. Exploring new perspectives, values, and persona of the alter ego created.

Developing a personalized action plan for self-discovery exploring new perspectives,

characteristics and persona of the Alter Ego created.

8. Nurturing the alter ego and monitoring the progress

Taking time for self-reflection, and regularly assessing progress and areas for growth and

improvement until we gain confidence in this new Alter Ego.

9. Developing new beliefs of the new alter ego

From the new habits and patterns, find our own belief systems of the new Alter Ego (Values Clarification)

10. Integrating new beliefs into your usual self and becoming your best version.

Integrating the new values and beliefs into our usual self, and continuing to grow and develop in our own

journey towards self-improvement and progress.
